We designed this eclectic kitchen for a well-traveled family of four. This Long Island kitchen is exciting, colorful, and very different. The client was drawn to the unique beauty of exotic Zebra wood and was thrilled when we were able to incorporate the wood to create two focal points in the kitchen. The cabinetry is Brookhaven by Wood-Mode with a Vista door style set on the vertical grain finished in Dark Larger on Cherry. The Zebra accent doors are from Bentwood’s Urban Loft line. The door style is Ventura in a Creamy Zebrano finish.
The designer worked closely with the client to achieve the exact design features the homeowner envisioned. The natural material of the river rock, bronze mosaics, and textured porcelain tile on the backsplash give the space an earthy feel while still keeping the sleek European ambiance of the space.
Flanking the range with lower height flip-up cabinets allows the space to visually appear larger. The glass hood enhances the view of the natural stone and adds interest and a focal point. Removing two small windows and placing them together allowed for a larger view of the property’s garden and pool. The sink area became a second focal point flanking the windows with the same Zebra wood detail.
The durable Cambria quartz countertops allow the family to prepare meals together. To increase counter space beside the refrigerator, we added two base full height doors with three rollouts on each side to give the client unique pantry storage.
