The holidays are the perfect time to gather family and friends around a cozy fire to enjoy precious time together. The ambiance of a flickering flame always makes a house feel like home. One of our favorite pastimes is family game night by the fire and roasting marshmallows for s’mores. Fill some mugs with hot cocoa, and you have the makings of a perfect evening at home.
The fireplace is often the central focal point in a room… perfect for cozying up with a cup of tea as the weather starts to get nippy here in New York.
If you’re concerned about children and pets, consider adding glass doors or decorative fire guards.
Create visual impact with interesting fireplace accessories, andirons, candlesticks, or flower-filled vases.
Design materials such as brick, natural stone, wood, tile, or metal offer endless opportunities to express your personal style. If hauling logs isn’t your thing, a remote-controlled gas fire might be an attractive alternative.
We designed this kitchen around an existing stone fireplace that instantly became the heart of the kitchen. The client found this fantastic oversized clock to add to the homeyness of the space. A mantle or hearth is a terrific place to showcase seasonal décor or display your favorite pottery, sculpture, or artwork.
An upholstered fireplace fender can also serve as a protective barrier while offering an additional place for guests to sit.
Be sure to search your local antique or consignment shops for little treasures like these to decorate your fireplace mantle and surrounds.
Laundry Room Layout Ideas
When planning the layout of the laundry room space, include as much cabinetry as possible for ample storage, a countertop folding area, good room lighting, and ideally a hanging area, a hamper area, a sink, and maybe some open shelves. You will want plenty of storage for accessories, linens, hampers, detergents, and cleaning supplies. An ideal laundry room includes room to fold clothes, iron, and store sewing and craft supplies for true convenience. Larger families often opt for a double set of washers and dryers. We also offer retractable clothes lines and hide-away ironing boards that are built into the cabinetry and then stored when not in use.
