Best Kitchen Step Stools and Ladders

Lifestyle Design Ideas

The step stool hunt began when I got tired of boosting myself onto the counter to reach the items in the double-tiered upper cabinets. The situation was equally as ugly jumping for a book on the top shelf of the library, and dare I mention the shoebox falling on my head while trying to get one finger on a corner of the box. Step stools are one handy item if they are accessible, but how do you find the best step stool for your situation? Do you own just one or do you have several in different areas of the house? Do you want an artistic form of modern art, a vintage design, or will strictly utilitarian do?

This stool closes to a slim 2.75” for easy storage. Steps are slip-resistant for safety and the large handle can double as a wall mount. It is available in 5 colors. Priced at around $400

Above (lower photo) is the Tricam 200-Pound Capacity Skinny Mini Stool, and it folds to a remarkable 2″ thin. It is a lightweight and stable with sturdy steel steps. It’s easy to fold and weighs only 12.5-Pounds. Above (top photo) is the Werner StepRight 225-Pound Duty Rating Step Stool. This is a foldable step stool with three steps and a convenient hand grip, comfortable tubular rail and oversized slip resistant steps. The feet are mar-resistant so your floor will not be damaged. What’s great is it folds flat for storing.

UTILITARIAN & THIN PROFILE STEPLADDERS

If you want a super skinny (folds to 1 ½”), stepstool (like the one above) that will fit/hide in a standard 24” kitchen cabinet, you’ll want to go for the Polder 2 Step Stool without Rail. Step up to the top and you’re 17 inches off the floor, perfect to access your upper kitchen cupboards, lightbulbs, and windows. Available for about $30 at Amazon.
