A Clean House is the Sign of a Dull Woman
I picked up this sign at a woodworking shop in Vermont because it reminded me of words of wisdom given to me by my girlfriend’s mom. My friend’s mom spent years cleaning the windows of her NYC brownstone. She always had newspaper and windex in hand and scrubbed that glass inside and out — they always sparkled.
I admit, I had my years of being a neat freak, but then came a conversation with this older, wiser woman. She told me she wasted so many hours of her life cleaning those windows instead of living her life… her words, “AND FOR WHAT?” resonated with me. So yes, today, my windows are dirty, and I’m grateful that this woman straightened me out.
Is this sign true? What do you think?

Yes, I agree, a house that is too clean is a sign of a wasted life. I, too, have struggled and learned that hard way that there is much more to life than trying to obtain the perfectly clean and tidy house. A “home” is far more important than the structure itself. My family, my friends and my passion for life should be what I focus on, not how perfect my house looks.
