Post Update (2/19/14) : I have had several inquiries about these murals since writing this post and wanted to let you know they are not available. I took these photos at KBIS 2010. They were prototypes showcased in Kobe’s booth, but they never went into production. For clients who liked this look, we used old fireplace backs as seen in Mario’s job here and Ken’s job here. The original post is below.
Add one more beautiful idea to the endless possibilities in backsplash design with these unique cast metal murals. The decorative backsplash panels are a prototype from Kobe Range Hoods and will come in an array of different metal finishes such as copper and oil rubbed bronze. I took these shots at Kobe’s booth at this year’s Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. Metals and metallics are HOT, and we are seeing new tile designs with eye-catching shine and sparkle.
Great for a new renovation or a kitchen update, a design detail and centerpiece such as this adds an artistic element with a huge impact. Placed above the cooktop or sink, a focal point such as a mural, a niche, a mosaic tile “painting,” or a custom designed tile pattern adds character to the space and infuses the client’s personality into the design.
These patterns have a warm, exotic feel with vivid high/low designs and intricate etchings (not flat). Tiling right to the edge of these pieces will create a picture-frame effect and really make them pop. Incorporating a treasured piece of art into the kitchen (or anywhere in the home) enhances the experience and can truly bring you joy every day.
Couple it with this IN-026 Series quiet hood with wireless remote control for the ultimate peace.
Do you have anything in your kitchen that gives you pure personal joy or puts a smile on your face? If so, please share your ideas on Kitchen Designs’ Facebook page or, if you prefer, email me your photos. Ken and I love to see the creative ideas other people have used either on their backsplashes or within their kitchens to incorporate something they love into the design. If you would like to showcase your ideas, send them over, and I’ll select several to publish in a future post. If you’d like, include your website, and I will gladly link back to you. Your idea could be the spark that brings happiness to others, so Let’s Spread some Joy!
