Blanco Makes Ken Kelly a Fan of The Micro Edge Sink at IMM Cologne Living Kitchen 2013

Blanco’s MicroEdge™ sink is not a new product but one we hadn’t seen in person before. Ken, in particular, has never been a fan of top-mount sinks. However, seeing it live at IMM Cologne Living Kitchen 2013 changed Ken Kelly’s mind! We thought it was going to be just another top mount sink but that was a very wrong impression. Blanco’s MicroEdge™ sink is quite impressive, and after seeing it in Blanco’s booth at the show, it is now something we at Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly – kitchendesigns.com would absolutely specify. They are REALLY very beautiful. The MicroEdge™ sink sits very tight to the countertop surface with an extremely thin edge that is set perfectly flat on the surrounding stone. It is something that would be very easy to live with when wiping crumbs or water into the sink, and it gives a completely finished look to the sink. There is no gap and no waffling of that edge, and its attention to detail is particularly nice where the sink meets the countertop.

We’re all used to undermount sinks so much today, but undermount sinks do have an exposed area that is caulked. That caulked edge is something that you have to keep clean; it has an ongoing maintenance in that caulked area. The MicroEdge™ eliminates this maintenance step in a very crisp and clean way.

The photo below shows another sink style we liked very much. You will see that Blanco mixed the MicroEdge with their Silgranit sink by elegantly framing it with a steel frame. With this look, you have the benefit of combining the MicroEdge detail with the inside compartment being your granite sink. Mixing their MicroEdge with the Silgranit sink into one, gives you the framed look that matches your cooktop’s metal outline holding the black glass. This design gives you the best of both, so you can have the anti-bacterial properties of  Silgranit with the steel MicroEdge that emulates your cooktop. It adds a nice complimentary look to the line and to the function of an integrated sink.

Optional accessories enhance the functionality of the sink. The  high-quality ash composite chopping board can be freely positioned on the sink while a multipurpose strainer dish made of stainless steel can also be suspended over the bowl. A modern draining board made of black plastic rounds off the range of practical accessories.

SteelFrame can be installed from above and is particularly well suited for laminate worktops. And yet, flush-mounted installation is possible too. In such case, Subline SteelFrame in conjunction with stone or glass is the perfect solution. Whether glass, stone, or laminate, installation is not complicated and is possible with all standard worktop thicknesses.

We are particularly impressed with the MicroEdge sink, and Blanco’s made Ken Kelly an absolute fan.
