Stainless Steel Cleaner: How to Clean Stainless Steel Cookware

How to clean fine stainless steelOne of the greatest things about stainless cookware is that you can bring even the worst burnt pan bottoms back to life. Here are a few ways you can get them looking new again. Use nylon-net, or plastic pads and brushes. Don’t use metal scouring pads such as steel wool or abrasive cleaners; they will scratch the surface of the cookware. First, handwash in hot soapy water. Then, if necessary, use a fine powder cleanser, and form it into a paste. We use Bar Keepers Friend but Bon Ami works equally as well. Apply the paste using a soft cloth rubbing with a circular motion. Wash the pot again in hot soapy water, and dry it immediately. You can also wash stainless steel pans in the dishwasher. I have heard some clients say they use baking soda to make them shine.

Important: Do not use oven cleaners or cleansers with chlorine bleach or amonia.

To remove burned-on food, fill the pan with a few inches of warm, soapy water — enough to cover the mess. Let it soak for about an hour. Then put the pan on the burner and boil the soapy water for 5-10 minutes.
