PLANNING FOR YOUR CABINETS:
Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly's fine custom cabinetry is designed just for you with lifetime durability. We offer clients an incredibly wide array of choices tailored to fit virtually any project, taste, and budget. One of the most important, if not the most important, decisions you will make is selecting the cabinetry style, color, and finish. The cabinets are the most visable feature and represent the largest portion of your budget. The furniture finishing techniques you select will give you the style, look, and finish you want. You can choose custom, semi-custom, or stock cabinets. You will need to decide on framed construction (frame is visable around doors and drawers and hinges are mounted to it) or frameless construction (doors and drawers completely overlay the edges of the cabinet box and hinges are mounted on the inside of the cabinet for a streamlined appearance) You can also combine styles and wood for both built-in and free-standing cabinets. Specialty doors could include glass, wire, metal, etc.
Other kitchen cabinet considerations include hand distressing options such as dents, nicks, rasping, worm holes, and joint cracks along with hand-padding, cow-tailing, and burnishing to produce an antiqued character and flavor. A wide variety of hand-glazing techniques are used to produce many different popular looks. You can also enhance your cabinetry with a wide variety of customized options and convenience accessories. Select the cabinetry options that will work best for you -- from convenient roll-out shelving and vertical tray racks to popular spice drawers, metal bread boxes, and pull-out recycling centers, chef's pantry, swing out pantry, bins, baskets, and specialty drawers (see design details photos). Then, you will add the perfect finishing touch with our distinctive collection of hardware options.
The kitchen is the busiest and most frequented place in a home. Creating a lifestyle environment for yourself that you will enjoy for years is well worth the investment in good design. Often it is a selling point of a house, so the investment you make renovating it is significantly recouped at selling time. Since kitchen cabinets a large part of your kitchen remodeling budget, choose your cabinets carefully and examine all your options. The cabinets will not only be responsible for storing and organizing cooking necessities, but will be the most visible aesthetic element in the room. The style that is right for you will probably match the design of your home's architecture. There are many design styles to choose from within the following themes: traditional, country, soft contemporary, and modern. To help you select the best choices for your needs, we wrote several articles on our Blog that talk about all your options including: door styles, finishes, cabinet construction, manufacturing styles, architectural moldings and trim, and design details etc. (read posts from the cabinetry category)
Begin by analyzing what you like and don't like about your present space. Make a list and leave it in the room for a couple of weeks. Are appliances outdated? Is the space unattractive? Is it inefficient? Do you need more counter space? Do you want more storage? Write it all down. Do you like the lighting? Do you want to keep the garden view? Write that down too. This is also a good time to gather inspirational photos from this site, magazines, books, or the Internet. Once your list is complete, come in for a free consultation and seek the advice of our experts. Our professional design help will save you costly mistakes later. We will be able to give you an accurate cost measurement before you start the job and assure that your project will be done right the first time. Bringing in your blueprints or measuring your existing space before you visit us will help us determine your cabinetry needs and give all of us a good place to start the process so we can give you a rough idea what to expect.
