This is truly a sneak preview as the Gaucho Grill’s official release will be at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York this March. We had a chance to see a demonstration from Steve Adolf (Kalamazoo’s President), Don Sivesind (VP of Sales), and Russ Faulk (VP of Product Development) at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) while we were on the show floor with Blog Tour Las Vegas. We will have this grill available exclusively on Long Island at Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly in late spring 2014.
The Gaucho Grill™ by Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet™ turns the Santa Maria/Argentinian grill tradition on its head with the addition of a gas-powered starter burner that lights the grill’s wood or charcoal fire, a rotisserie, a deep-hopper funnel to remove ash and cooking surfaces cut specifically for meat, fish or vegetables.
Kalamazoo’s Gaucho burner makes fire starting easier for the outdoor cook. All you have to do is pile wood or charcoal onto the fuel grates, light the burner and come back to a roaring fire–no need for kindling, chimney starters or monitoring a growing fire. In addition, the Gaucho’s Deep Hopper funnel under the fuel grates and burner eliminates the need to shovel ash out of a traditional fire pan. As wood or charcoal burns down, the debris falls through the grates, past the burner, down the funnel and into a sturdy clean-out bin.
The most noticeable feature of the Gaucho is its massive 36-inch spoked stainless steel wheel that is supported on a 30-inch-tall bridge. The wheel raises and lowers a cooking-surface cradle from level with the grill frame for high-temperature searing to 18 inches above counter height for slow, low-temperature cooking. The cradle converts into a rotisserie by removing the cooking surfaces and inserting a roasting spit into a built-in motor.
The grill’s interchangeable cooking surfaces are laser cut from quarter-inch thick slabs of stainless steel. The vegetable grate has openings small enough to prevent green beans from falling through and into the fire. The fish surface, with thin half-moon openings is designed to prevent drying out, breaking up and flaking.
Hand built at the time of order in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the Gaucho Grill will become available in two freestanding models and a built-in version, available for purchase at Kitchen Designs late spring 2014.
