First Impressions What Does Your Front Door Say About You?

Musings

Traditional Exterior by Sicora Design/Build

When you think of first impressions, you usually think of meeting someone for the first time and forming an opinion based on body language, mannerisms, style, and even dialog. We rarely think of our home’s front door as an opportunity to create a good first impression; yet, our front door speaks volumes about us. Does yours reflect your personality? Can your friends and family find you? Are you inviting to your guests?

How many times have you driven to someone’s home and couldn’t find it because it was not lit properly or the house numbers were too small or missing? Perhaps you even felt it was not a welcoming place. In life we try to put our best foot forward and want our homes to reflect who we are, but the front door seems to be a place forgotten.

Here are some simple entryway ideas to consider:

1) Keep the entrance clean and inviting. A fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference.

2) Include a cheerful welcoming mat.

3) Have appropriate lighting and be sure your house numbers can be seen from the street so people can find you.

4) Place flowers or potted bushes in an urn at the entrance.

5) Don’t forget the person the person that visits our homes almost every day – our mail carriers. Our mailboxes seem to always get overlooked.

6) Add a little  seasonal pizzazz.

7) Don’t be afraid to add a touch of color.

Your front door and entryway doesn’t have to be palatial or overly grand, but personalize it to match your unique individuality and your style. See more photos on our Front Doors and Entryways Pinterest Board
