This Mediterranean Old World Kitchen Makes You Want to Bake Bread

Kitchen Design

With its massive archway and large cooking hearth, this Old World kitchen creates a pre-17th century European feel that makes you just want to bake bread and sip red wine. Classic architectural moulding and details give this kitchen character. The client wanted to include unfitted cabinetry at the far end of the room, so we created a custom free-standing hutch in a cottage black finish to complement the mini bar and dining table.

Designer: Mario Mulea, CR, Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly Inc.

Working with this New Hyde Park Long Island homeowner, Mario chose Wood-Mode Regency Square Raised frameless custom cabinets with maple veneer interiors. The top drawers are Louis Philippe and all others are Regency Flat fronts. The finish is burnished bronze on oak, and the countertops are granite in Rainforest Green. The floors are porcelain, and the hardware is from Top Knobs Normandy Collection(Patine Rouge). The walls are faux finished in a custom mix.

Other interesting features include a wicker basket base cabinet, pier mantle hood, broken pediment top, base vertical pull outs, cutlery divides in wood and plastic, pantry rollouts, tray dividers, pot drawers, double pull out garbage, wine rack, and angle front base cabinets.

Bringing art into the kitchen adds a personal touch with bronze dancing sculptures on the Mediterranean kitchen mantle hood.
