Ronald McDonald Family Room at Stony Brook Children's Hospital

A few weeks ago Ken and I celebrated the grand opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, complete with a Ken Kelly kitchen and locker room! We were  honored to support this wonderful effort and extraordinary cause.  The 1,000 square-foot room is a home away from home for the families and the children in need of advanced medical care. It offers families a comfortable living space to eat, rest, shower,  use the computer, watch a movie, and interact and support each other during such a difficult time  in their lives.  The room is located right in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit and offers a way to be in the hospital but not feel like you’re “IN” the hospital. Dr. Margaret McGovern, Hospital Physician in Chief, says parents can comfortably stay 24 hours a day at the hospital room.

Ken Kelly designed a custom Wood-Mode / Brookhaven kitchen offering families a fully stocked pantry and the ability to cook a homemade meal and sit comfortably while eating. He also designed the locker room cabinetry and integrated laundry area. Manhattan-based interior designer, Anthony Baratta, said he envisioned a happy, peaceful place with a colorful modern vibe.

Partnerships like these “take a village” and included Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Anthony Baratta LLC, Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly, and an army of incredible sponsors.   We especially want to thank our network of fellow Long Island Wood-Mode dealers and kitchen industry vendors for their generous donations to purchase the cabinetry and support this cause. As the plaque says, “SOMETIMES THE BEST CURE IS FAMILY.”
