Dekton by Cosentino LogoKen and I just returned from KBIS 2014, and it was an honor to be a selected as one of the 15 design bloggers representing #BlogTourVegas and #ModenusTalks where brands and influencers connect via intense conversation sessions. Our schedule was jam packed with press tours, private product showings, innovation awards, and fabulous cocktail parties showcasing all that’s new in the kitchen and bath industry. Many thanks to Veronika at Modenus and our wonderful sponsors. I am excited to share all that’s new including today’s feature … a new product launch from Cosentino called DEKTON.

It was wonderful to speak with Lorenzo Marquez, VP of Marketing for Cosentino North America and Lynn Silverman, our Long Island account manager about Cosentino’s launch of a new compact surface called Dekton. It is the biggest launch since Silestone in the early 90’s, and the surface presents advanced technical properties backed by rigorous research offering us a new world of possibilities for both interior and exterior applications. Cosentino has invested 172 million dollars into the new product. We are especially excited about using it in our outdoor kitchen applications. Dekton’s extreme strength and performance can withstand the elements, and its UV resistance allows for color stability. It is highly resistant to impact, scratches and abrasion and provides thermal shock resistance against heat, frost and thawing. In fact, the surface can withstand heat up to 1400 degrees fahrenheit, making it durable enough to allow you to take your hot pots from the stove and place them directly on the countertop. The product is both tough and aesthetically beautiful, and it comes in a variety of colors and finishes. …the possibilities are very exciting for use in flooring, cladding, staircases, exterior facades, kitchen countertops, bathrooms, pool surrounds, outdoor showers, etc.

The new product is made from a mixture of inorganic raw materials found in glass, porcelain tile, and natural quartz. The manufacturing process combines technologies from these three industries, resulting in a proprietary new advancement called Particle Sintering Technology (PST), a high tech process which represents an accelerated version of the metamorphic change that natural stone undergoes when subjected to high temperatures and pressure over thousands of years.

Dekton will be made in large format slabs measuring 56” x 126” and is available in three thicknesses: 1.2cm, 2cm and 3cm.

At launch, Dekton is rolling out three collections – Solid, Natural, and Tech with 13 white, grey, black, and natural stone hues and unique polished, matte, slate, and wood finishes. In the future, the collection will expand to include an impressive range of innovative aesthetics including rust, concrete, and oxidized metal as well as a variety of textures, such as rippled, leather, denim, brushed and coated.

Dekton by Cosentino Color Finishes Solid Surface

Solid Collection: The solid collection is composed of stain resistant white and black solid hues. The matte finish feels like a brushed plaster. The white is bright, and its reflection is similar to the surface of water. The black matte closely resembles natural stone.

Natural Collection: Marbles and natural stone are not suitable for certain applications because they have specific technical limitations. Cosentino has formulated several colors that resemble natural stone but possess the performance attributes of Dekton. The collection includes aesthetics similar to Pietra Serena natural stone, veined white marble, and travertine.

Tech Collection: This collection includes three unique colors and finishes – one that simulates cement in both look and feel, and another that resembles a mixture of exotic granite and corten steel, perfect for environments that seek an industrial aesthetic.

Disclosure–Although Ken and Grace Kelly’s  invitation from BlogTourVegas and its sponsors (including Dekon by Cosentino) includes airfare, amazing accommodations, excellent meals, and fantastic company, Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly, Inc. has  been specifying Cosentino products for many years, and all thoughts and opinions on these products are entirely our own.
